Desperate

It seems I have been hearing about "riding lessons" for a lifetime. At least, my 9-year-old's lifetime. My girls have been told (practically from birth) all of the details pertaining to the day we finally have horses. It has been my dream since childhood and it is now apparent that I have succeeded in planting the seed in my girls.

This year our girls began a new adventure at John Adams Academy. Within the first week of school Caitlin very quickly became best friends with a new girl named Jenny. Jenny just so happens to take riding lessons at the same place we had Amber's "riding" 5th birthday party. She also just so happens to have her very own pony boarding there as well. So in true BFF style, Caity and Jenny have spent countless hours together at "the barn".

In August Caitlin began hounding me about her riding lessons. Needing to stall for financial reasons Brad and I told her if she could raise the first $200 on her own, we would continue to pay for her lessons. I had no idea what she was capable of. She very quickly began planning every variety of fundraiser possible. She conspired with her daddy to make and distribute fliers for each event.

From September to February we have had: a car wash (very successful), a lemonade stand (mildly succesful), pet sitting over the holiday break (very successful), a babysitting night (complete flop), and plans for a bake sale and craft sale that never came to fruition.

Today, February 25th, marks the peak of Caitlin's desperation to finish her $200 goal. She consented to pick up dog poop for her final fundraising effort. This was wildly successful and ended up being a lot of fun.

Some chose to have Caity walk thier dog and do the pick up along the way:

Others had a more traditional layout:

But her perseverence paid off when at the end of the day she had "cleaned up" in more ways than one. Not only did she meet her $200 goal, she was able to pass her goal and, after tithing, still have about $12 to spare.

I will be calling Monday to schedule her lessons. Never has there been a happier child...
