Four months. It's hard to remember his homecoming now. Life-as-usual has completely resumed. We are just an average busy family of 6. Everyone is completely settled. Jacob joins the family everywhere now and rarely shows signs of being overwhelmed. Strangers are not scary anymore as long as mommy is there to reassure him. New environments do not elicit frantic signing of 'all done'. He is still not a fan of big crowds in small places, but I know lots of adults who are not fans of crowds either (hubby included).
The only thing that still feels a little different than my first three times around the block with my kids is Jacob makes monumental advances every day. Because he was a bit behind developmentally, his milestones seem to be coming one on top of the other. I am constantly seeing new major developments. And it never gets old. I still celebrate every time.
Jacob is now pointing, climbing, mimicking sounds and words, kicking a ball, following simple instruction, learning shape placement in a puzzle (circle, square, etc), 'asking' what things are, and showing displeasure when things don't go 'his way'.
We have found the one thing that will consistently bring real tears to our baby that never cries: coming inside or not being allowed outside. Jacob LOVES to be outside and will ask to go out during every wake time. When play time is over he frequently cries when we have to come in. And it is a lasting heartbroken cry that includes real alligator tears.
Jacob remains the world's happiest (and cutest) baby. He is a social butterfly and everyone knows when he enters a room. We are having so much fun expanding his little world and showing him new things.
