Is there such a thing as a "little" miracle? Sometimes the small things seem insignificant, but looking back over the past year there is no way we can confuse all the of blessings we have received with fate, luck, or coincidence. Every step of the way through our adoption process we have had just enough money in our adoption account to cover the current need. Each step of the way we have thought to ourselves, "How will we afford the next step!?" And yet every time a way has been made.
One of the most obvious blessings along this journey was our fundraising effort back in June. We planned a large yard sale, rented a high school parking lot, and watched as God went to work blessing our efforts. Beginning to end it was a three week effort.
In that time we had over 25 families donate items for sale at our yard sale. Our house was literally packed to the gills with furniture, clothing, toys, exercise equipment, appliances; you name it, we had it. We had friends and family who chose to 'sposor' our event which covered all of our expenses for advertisement and insurance. We had donations of food and equipment, tables, pop up shade, and even a bounce house. Friends and family showed up at 3:45am the day of the event to help load trucks and move everything to the school parking lot. Friends came and ran a car wash for us. Other friends took shifts manning our concession stand and information booth. Brad's boss even had his Jazz band come out and play for us during the evening BBQ. Family spent the entire day with us working and managing the sale. Well... except for nap time (it was hot!!):
It turned out to be the hottest day in June with temperatures reaching a high of 109 degrees. Yet we still had a steady stream of customers throughout the entire day! All in all this one fundraiser generated over $5,000 for our adoption.
The kids came out for dinner and loved running through the car wash and jumping in the bounce house.
This journey has included blessings beyond the financial need. All along the way doors have been opened. We have heard on numerous occasions during this process, "I'm sorry, but there is just no way we can provide the type of document you are looking for." I have literally been laughed out of doctor's offices multiple times trying to get my hands on a real photo copy of their license and board certification (I know, there is a website. Russia requires a photo copy of the actual document.) We have gone back and forth with our debtors trying to get verification letters. We have prayed for documents to move quickly through government offices. Each time everything happens in just the right amount of time and we usually hear how 'lucky" we are from those involved in generating the documents. There is no such thing as "luck" in the Krinke family. Let's give credit where credit is due. God is good.
