This was a sign posted in the restaurant our guide took us to for lunch. It is a notice from the health department stating that this restaurant had a 'C' rating. The green happy face would be an 'A' rating. The blue neutral face was a 'B" rating. And our restaurant had the brown sad face 'C' rating. Awesome...
These funny little details always make me chuckle in foreign countries. At home, if there is construction of some kind the entire area is fenced off and unaccessable to the public. Here in the park the walkway in front of the bathrooms was torn apart. There was no other access to the bathrooms so people would just jump over the trench under the arm of the backhoe to get to the bathroom. I had to help Aiden make the jump. It was a long way down and just wide enough he could have missed. The workers were kind enough to stop the backhoe while we crossed so we could jump across without risking getting hit.
The last little detail I want to add is Aiden's first swing. Only one word neccessary: JOY. Everywhere we go. Everything we do. He is just a joy.
And back to the original post:
Today's picture is from our tour with our tour guide. And again I have forgotten the name of the park. Sigh.
This park is within walking distance of our first hotel in Guangzhou, the China hotel. It is beautiful and big. It took us 30 minutes to walk around about 2/3 of the park. Nathan was not happy. He did not want to be there. But Aiden had the time of his life! There were little amusement rides throughout the park. He was able to ride 3 and he was on top of the world. He played a fishing game and caught about 20 goldfish out of an inflatable pool. He eagerly ran from area to area and laughed the whole time. My guide said: "This one (Aiden) seems to always be happy. That one (Nathan) is very dramatic." Yes, it's true. That about sums it up.
Nathan finally perked up at the end when he realized we were not stopping to feed his me monster. He finally decided to join Aiden on one of the rides. And after spending the entire day complaining about his mouth hurting too much to eat or even walk he plowed through an ice cream bar with gusto. And his mouth magically healed itself by dinner time. The me monster got hungry enough for some real food.
We managed to squeeze in a little swimming (mostly hot tubbing) before dinner and tonight we plan to have a dance party with our friends before they leave tomorrow morning. The next few days will be very lonely without familiar faces around. The other two families from our agency who arrive this week are staying at other hotels. I'm still looking for those new friends to get us through to the finish line
