Brad is making fun of me for making the effort to type this post. He says I should simply write: We made it home. I didn't kill anyone. Now I am going to bed.
I desire to record just a few more details:
As luck would have it, Amber came into my room again at 2 am this morning. It was another L-O-N-G night of cat naps on the floor next to the couch. I worried that we may not be able to drive home if she couldn't hold it together. But, Amber woke feeling good enough to eat a little breakfast and she wanted to go HOME. So we all piled into the car and gave it our best shot.
I made it to Elko for lunch without falling asleep at the wheel (barely). My dad offered to drive during nap time and I thought I found my golden moment. But Jacob had already slept about 2 hours at the beginning of our drive and he wasn't interested in another nap time. It took quite a while to convince him to go to sleep. I fell asleep a few times. And one of the times I woke it had finally happened: All 4 of the kids with us were asleep in the car. Unfortunately it was short lived as our driver needed a potty break before nap time was over.
So, with everyone awake, I resumed my spot behind the wheel and resumed my effort to not fall asleep. We made it home safe and sound in time for dinner. It was a far more successful drive than our drive to Utah the week before.
Tonight the kids all ate a hearty dinner and begged to swim before bed. There was time to empty the car, start the laundry, and put away all the suitcases. Then the kids were rewarded with their coveted swim time. Everyone was in bed at a more normal time tonight and now mama can settle into bed with some hope of sleeping past 2 am...
