It's 4:30 in the morning

So, after promising to keep the blog updated I fell off the face of the earth for a couple days. Almost in a literal way since flying at 30,000 feet in the air is definitely off the face of the earth. Here's whet you missed:

Flying with a 1 year old- One phrase: "Oh, my aching...' We were not able to get the bulkhead seats with the bassinet so for 17 hours in 3 different planes I had no choice but to hold my boy. He was amazing, considering. He only cried for real once on the second flight as he was desperately trying to find sleep.

The first flight he was a bit loud. For the most part he does not cry. Instead he has what we call his "battle cry''. It is not whiny or noticeably sad. He just opens his little mouth and yells from the bottom of his little gut like he is about to charge into battle. So the first flight (9 and 1/2 hours) we didn't hear any crying, but the battle cry did serenade us from time to time.

We planned an overnight stop in New York to try and break up the travel. I am SO glad we did. Jacob slept nearly 10 hours and Brad and I needed that rest to tackle the next flights and come home to our crazy household.

New York was an interesting place to be. The hotel we had a reservation at was without power so we were able to book a last minute room at the Super 8 in Queens. It was great. A roof over our heads, beds and a playpen for Jay, free breakfast, and power. We passed out asleep at about 6:30pm. Apparently we missed a big rival gang fight right outside the hotel sometime in the night. Brad did see a machete and baseball bat out front in the morning. And everyone at breakfast was talking about the hoopla.

As we were leaving we got to see the massive lines for gasoline. Prayers for the people in New York, it is a tough place to be right now.

Our second day of flying was equally as good. After crying for about 15 minutes Jacob passed out and slept for 3 and 1/2 hours. We were all ready to be off the plane in Sacramento. Being crammed into one tiny seat for two days is rough when you are only 1.

Finally home-We were thrilled to see some family and friends waiting to greet us at the airport. I missed my kids. Jacob passed out in the car on the way home and then had a blast meeting all his pets and playing with his sibs.

First night- Jacob slept until 4:30. He fussed and cried for about an hour trying to figure out why he couldn't get up and start the day. And then finally went back to sleep. Drew was not happy to have his sleep interrupted. Got to figure this one out quickly.

First day- Our first day home was pure bliss. I think this must just be a honeymoon phase, 'cause it was absolutely wonderful. The boys played and laughed all day. Jacob ate and napped like a dream. And the girls were so happy to play with their little bro after school. Dinner around the table with 4 children felt so good.

Another short night- Tonight was not so wonderful. We all went to bed at 8pm but Caity woke up with a sore throat and cough at about 10. I fumbled through the medicine cabinet and gave her some cough medicine. Then she was up sick to her stomach. I checked the bottle and realized it was passed the expiration date. Fantastic. I was up with her until about 1am.

Then Jacob woke at 2:30 and has been on again off again ever since. He lets me rock him to sleep and seems to settle into bed only to cry again about 20 minutes later. So we've all been playing musical beds tonight. Daddy moved to the spare room around midnight when Caity came into bed with me. Then Drew moved to the spare room when Jacob woke up the second time. The only one to stay in bed has been Amber.

So it is now 5:20am and I think Jacob is finally asleep for good this time. I wonder if mommy can catch a few Z's before the next day begins...

This post is not encouraging, but glad to hear most hours of the day are bliss! Keep the info coming (after you rest).
